Ikigai : unrealistic Japanese hype?

First of all: I’d like to thank Lut, my dear colleague, for introducing this topic to me. Ikigai is a Japanese concept meaning ‘A reason for being’.

In the meantime I’ve studied the concept and read the book ‘Ikigai, the Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life’. I believe it’s a great, but simple concept.  As you can see in the picture below, there are 4 fundamental items: what you love, what the world needs, what you are good at.. and what you can be paid for. The combination of these 4 items is called ‘Ikigai’, the (real) reason why you get up in the morning.

In case you don’t like to read, I can recommend the Ted talk of Dan Buettner.

And you know what? We named one of our coaching rooms the ‘Ikigai Reflection Room’. So, if ever you want to reflect on the Ikigai concept or other topics, be our guest…
